This image was taken from ground level, rather than the vantage point being the photographer's eye level which gives it perspective and visual impact. The fact that it is not just a frontal shot of the subject (the boat) means the picture becomes more interesting to look at as there is more in shot. We see an alternate view of the boat from a different perspective. There is quite a lot of open space in this image, and the natural organic shapes of the pebbles, sky, and sea give it a calming effect as they are quite soft, subtle shapes. The horizontal, slightly curved lines on the boat also add to this quiet, calm and tranquil effect. The rocks in the foreground of the image are more in focus than the actual boat is as it's in the background. However, our eyes are firstly drawn to the sunset as warm colours are more dominating, this is even more exaggerated by the fact that rest of the image is conforming and quite dark. The darkest value is in the left hand corner, however, the lightest value is just above this, in the reflection of the sunset on the water, which creates a contrast and adds another interesting element to the image rather than all the focus just being on the subject. The reflection of the sunset also helps to balance out the picture as it creates symmetry.
