Robert Doisneau
I like this image because it captures a moment. You can clearly see what the main focus of this image is as it has been look so they are right in the centre. Our eyes are also drawn to the couple kiss because their bodies are positioned differently than all the other people in the image. Everyone else is walking as if they are going to the right of this scene, whereas the man is turned to face the camera and is holding onto the woman, so even though we cant see much of her, we know she is connected to, and just as important as the man. I also like the fact that nobody else seems to be paying any attention to this couple, they're just going about their own business. This implies that the couple are almost in their own little world.
I think this image really portrays what childhood is. Looking at the picture, we can clearly see that this has been taken in front of the Eiffel Tower, which is a very famous landmark. The fact that the children do not seem to be paying attention to this at all, shows that they only care about playing and having fun. The older girl at the back on the roller blades is holding onto and being pulled along by the younger girl on the bike. She is putting all her trust in her, and this type of trust shows that they obviously have a strong bond with each other and are possibly sisters.
I like the fluffiness of this image. You can tell that these people really are mid-dance and that this is not posed. The way the woman's skirt is billowing out helps show this and also creates a nice diagonal shape which draws the viewers eyes to her more. I think the fact that the man dancing is the only coloured person in the picture is also a point to pick up on as it could possibly reflect the time and society this photograph was taken in.

Although this image is clearly posed, it still shows a real situation. This mother and her child are posed classically with the child sitting on the mothers knee. However, neither look remotely happy as people in this pose normally would. They both look quite distressed and upset. Also, the fact that the mother's hair is in her face and she hasn't bothered to move it when she's getting her picture taken shows that possibly something big has happened that's make her not care about little things like that. Their clothes also look quite worn and basic, which suggests poverty. The tree's that are silhouetted in the immediate background look dead and leafless, which- along with the clearly destroyed landscape in the rest of the image- tell us that there has probably been a fire or another disaster of some sort.
This image shows a very famous world leader at the time, and was probably taken after a conference of some sort. It shows Churchill doing his iconic 'V' (victory) gesture, and also portrays a different side to his personality as politicians are usually quite serious, and he is smiling. The background of this image is very plain which makes him stand out more, as do the contrast of his white cravat against his black jacket.
This is a very famous image taken in times square. You can see from the man's almost clenched fists that he is possibly feeling a lot of emotion during this kiss, possibly relief and happiness from winning the war, and this kiss is how he's chosen to express it. The woman being lent backwards creates a really nice shape and looks more pleasing to the eye than them kissing just standing straight would have. The people's expressions in the background are also a nice element. You can see that they're all smiling and look quite amused by the kiss, this implies that it wasn't a serious, emotional, private kiss between an actual couple.

I think this image is attention-grabbing because you can clearly see that this is still a child, and yet he's smoking. His facial expression and body language show that he looks quite down (fed up) and probably doesn't really care about anything. This makes the viewer wonder why he looks like this, and possibly if that is also the reason he is smoking at such a young age. He also looks as if he's 'wise beyond his years' and has experienced a lot through life.
This is a very famous image from this photographer. It shows a mother and her children who are clearly in a state of poverty. The children are turned away from the camera and hiding their faces, whereas a lot of the time children like to show off in front of a camera. This makes the viewer wonder why these children are possibly so reserved and shy- what has happened to them? The mother looks very concerned in this picture. Her head is resting in her hand which makes her look resigned but also thoughtful and concerned. This makes the audience question what she is so concerned about, they think about what might be effecting this woman's life.
The woman in this image is profile and almost silhouetted against the sky. Because this is taken from a low angle, she appears larger and looks like she is towering above the fields in the background. This makes the image have a bigger impact. She also looks very distressed, like she's about to cry. She is clutching her head and neck, as if she is in pain or uncomfortable. We wonder what has happened to make her look so distressed- has something traumatic such as death occurred?
